Translated to Our Inheritance

Colossians 1:12-13 “Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:

Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son:”

Translated is a military term. When it suited the purpose of Rome, Rome would move one city,….and everyone in it;…..from one place to another. When this would happen, they were made City-states….citizens of Rome, from that time on.

They would take the whole city; people, government, and trades; and move it from one place to another.

Here Paul is saying that we, as Christians, are so translated: God has brought out of the Kingdom of Darkness, into the Kingdom of His Dear Son.

We simply need to work it out in our everyday life.

This is our inheritance.

(If you look at the word “inheritance” in scripture, from Genesis to 1 Peter;……in most instances it has to do with something God has set aside for a particular person, or people.)

As in Paul’s commission on the road to Damascus, as he testified of it before king Agrippa:

Acts 26:15-18 “And I said, Who art thou, Lord? And He said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest,

But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee;

Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee,

To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light , and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in Me.”

The message given Paul was of deliverance….from darkness to light; and of an inheritance left to us from our Lord and Savior.

“Light” is what we are given when born again.

Light comes as the dawning light to our souls, which shines more and more unto the perfect day. (Proverbs 4:18)

That dawning light comes by the Holy Spirit, which is the earnest of our inheritance (there is that word of promise, again):

Ephesians 1:13-14 “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise,

Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.”

An earnest is the down payment of all that will come in our inheritance.

And again what is our inheritance? Which comes from God, through the Holy Spirit to us?

Ephesians 1:17-20 “That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him:

The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of His calling, and what the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,

And what is the exceeding greatness of His power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of His mighty power,

Which He wrought in Christ, when He raised him from the dead, and set Him at His own right hand in the heavenly places,”

The “riches” of our inheritance through the Holy Spirit,…..is the spirit of wisdom,….understanding and knowledge of our calling,….and power;….the same enlivening power that raised Christ from the dead.

Our task, then, if we are to have the Reality of this,…..is to see that we are “translated”……practically.

To get everything we have out of the kingdom of Darkness; into Christ’s Kingdom, and under His control. Of course, this is by His power, working in our willing it.

This is every area of our lives…..for Rome would take everything: homes, families, shops, markets….everything; from one city, and set it up into another area.

Anything we leave under the rule or influence, of the old life; from the kingdom of darkness;…….will cause an occasion to the Adversary of our souls…..to use on us to trick us or tempt us.

And what does “everything” mean?

It means everything. To move everything, so it is under the reigning power of Jesus Christ.

He works within us to do it:

Philippians 2:13 “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.”

But we are to will with Him in it.

He hath translated us.

(Which means that He has moved in, surrounded us with His might, and made the proclamation for the whole universe that we are His…..under His Light, and that He is moving us….and all we are, to a place in His kingdom…..for His glory and honor.)

But now He calls for our willing cooperation with Him to work it out, and move everything of our life into God’s kingdom of Light.

Philippians 2:12-13 “Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.”

Our inheritance is given to us of God…..but will we get it? Will we move along with Him into the new life….into His kingdom of Light?

To be enabled to do what we ought.

How many times do we go to do the right thing; but fail to see it done?

How many times do we say, “We won’t do that again.”;….but soon, do?

How many times have we gone where we know we shouldn’t?

The Power of God in my life, makes freedom from sin and darkness a reality.

It is our inheritance; “hath translated” is the reality where God is concerned; and He is faithful.

But on our part, we need to understand what our inheritance is; and we need to possess it by willing with the Holy Spirit…..and moving everything out of the influence of our old darkness…..into His marvelous Light.

1 Thessalonians 5:5, 8 “Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day, we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for a helmet, the hope of salvation.”

He has the power, He will work within us. Will we let Him, by our willing obedience, and gain our inheritance, God has put aside for us?
