John 1:4 “In Him was Life; and the Life was the Light of men.”
If we are to come to the completeness of Christian Life….then we must have these two things:…..Life, and Light.
And both are found in Christ……”in Him”.
Without life, we are still dead in trespasses and sins. (Ephesians 2:1-2)
Without light, we are still blind….unable to move forward….we are just wandering. (Ephesians 4:18)
Both life and light are found in Christ Jesus…..and now are given unto us through His Holy Spirit within us.
1 Thessalonians 5:19 “Quench not the Spirit”.
Don’t put out the fire of the Holy Spirit within. Fire is associated with purifying, and with warmth of affection and zealousness.
(My husband likes the Williams version, here. 1 Thes. 5:19 “Stifle not the Spirit”…..simply do not choke Him off.
You know how you are impressed with something….and the first thing you do is….”what?! Oh, no that can not be!”
….or, the Holy Spirit speaks to you through the Word,….and you say, “oh, that must be for so-in-so.”
We “choke” Him off…..won’t let Him finish HIs instruction to us…..and very often, lose by it….though we seek it afterward….it is not with the same power.)
God would have us joyful,….strong,…..in Him.
The Joy of the Lord is our strength….
Nehemiah 8:10 “Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”
(This…”neither be ye sorry”…is not the sorrow of repentance….they had that, and were gathered to hear the Word of God
This Joy is a ever bubbling up of knowledge…..it is the difference between the sun through the window…..and going outside in it’s brightness.
This joy is all from the Holy Spirit within…..nothing we work at,….only yield to.
It is not just power….although there is power and strength within….but in some of my weakest moments, I have had joy….this knowledge of God with me….this strength of heart, and overwhelming feeling of God’s love.
But, as I said, the Holy Spirit must be yielded to in all our doings.
“Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are….”
And one of the first places we learn to yield, is in our thought life….the thoughts we think and the motives behind them.
In reality, we must think God’s thoughts after Him…..not in the grand things of the Universe….but where I am concerned.
What is His thought concerning this?
And how should I act and react?
Now there should come to each of us, that transformation of the mind; where our natural mind becomes Spiritual.
Philippians 3:15 “Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in anything ye be otherwise minded; God shall reveal even this unto you.”
It is there we become aware of how we think of our lives, as a whole.
We have our sacred life,…..we have our secular life.
We have our natural life,……we have our Spiritual life.
We have a habit of dividing our lives up into parts….this part for me, this for God, this for my family, this for work….etc.
But our lives should not be separate…..but all….”in Him”.
We must come to the place wherever we are, whoever we are with, we are before the Lord as well…..His servant and Ambassador.
This is to bring all our dealings up into an act of worship.
Colossians 3:23 “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.”
“Heartily”….with every breath,…every action, beginning in the heart.
Hebrews 13:15-16 “By Him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His Name.
But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.”
HIs life and light lead us on….giving every day a purpose….and a new way to praise and worship Him.
