Joshua 3:4 “Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure: come not near unto it, that ye may know the way by which ye must go: for ye have not passed this way heretofore.”
Our days are often the same…..today is as yesterday. Yet Jesus calls us to keep our eyes on Him….and follow on.
“Take the world, but give me Jesus, all its joys are but a name;
But His love abideth ever, Thro’ eternal years the same.
Take the world, but give me Jesus, Sweetest comfort of my soul;
With my Savior watching o’er me, I can sing though billows roll.
Take the world but give me Jesus, Let me view His constant smile;
Then thro’-out my pilgrim journey. Light will cheer me all the while.
Take the world, but give me Jesus, In His cross my trust shall be;
Till, with clearer, brighter vision, Face to face my Lord I see.” (Fanny J. Crosby)
Plainly, I will ask you?
Is your level of joy and peace increasing?
Are you entering new ground….higher ground with Christ?
To have it in it’s fullness, we must become more sensitive to the Holy Spirit….and stop stifling Him.
1 Thessalonians 5:19 “Quench not the Spirit.”
To “quench”…is to put out, or stifle the fire which is burning.
In our yielding to Him, we will begin to experience that reality He has for us.
Acts 1:6. “When they therefore were come together, they asked of Him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?”
The disciples, after the Lord’s resurrection, wondered if He was not going to bring in the kingdom.
It seemed a good time, His resurrection would surely convince all the doubters…..and He would manifest His power.
Being all gathered together….they thought that this was the next step…
(How like us, they were. We think we know what the Lord is going to do next! Surely this would be what He wants to do!)
But Jesus said, “It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in His own power.
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
And when He had spoken these things, while they beheld, He was taken up; and a cloud received Him out of their sight.” (Acts 1:7-9)
This was the last words of the Man, Christ Jesus. Times and seasons are in the Father’s hands, and they are not for us to know.
What?! Leave the witness of who He is….and what He did….in the hands of His disciples…of us?
We ran away….and hid, until You came to us and showed us Your resurrection…..how can we do what You are telling us to do?
“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you.”
The power of the Holy Ghost was the answer…..
Power to go out to conquer the world?
No, not at all!
Power to conquer yourself, and bring yourself into subjection to God’s Will and Way for your life.
Jesus does it all…..through the Holy Spirit….with your willing with Him.
The Promise of the Holy Spirit….He had told them of. Now He was saying this was the way His crucifixion and resurrection was to be witnessed to. So that His Way of Salvation could be witnessed and told to others.
We are all called as witnesses. Witnesses to the power of God in our lives. We can speak….of what we know in our experience.
For we witness, more by what we are…..than what we say.
Jesus Christ is seen, as we lift Him up in our lives.
For the disciples it was…..”in Jerusalem and in all Judaea and in Samaria and unto the uttermost parts of the earth.”
For us, it is…..”first in me,….my church (the fellowship of believers to strengthen and be strengthened)….my home….my job….and throughout the world to the degree of my influence (wherever I am).
No matter what we do, we will be better at it, through the power of the Holy Spirit,…
…..because the Spirit speaks of our enablement…..of grace, given and used….we are powerless on our own.
Philippians 2:13 “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure.”
As we will with God, His Will will be done.
Is it not time, we all willed to do and be of His good pleasure?
Revelation 4:11 “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for Thou hast created all things, and for Thy pleasure they are and were created.”
Here, we come into our highest order….the most we can achieve personally…..
…..to live for the pleasure or determination of the Lord…..to become what we were created for.
