Preaching, Teaching, and Notes

1 Corinthians 3:10-11 “According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.

For other foundation can no man lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”

Paul says he is a masterbuilder….an ambassador of Christ.

Simply he has gone about preaching the foundation of salvation through grace and faith….in Christ Jesus.

All is through Christ Jesus….but we must have the foundation of being born again…..then we too may build upon Him our part of His Purpose. (Matthew 7:24-27)

We are to be be watchful, as we preach and teach the kingdom…..to build on that foundation….all the things of Christ.

Titus 2:11-12 “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,

Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lust, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;”

Oh, the fullness of the grace of God that bringeth salvation….from sin, and ourselves, and the world! There is saving grace…Hallelujah! And there is enabling grace….Praise God!

Paul preached grace…and often sought in prayer a greater supply of grace for the churches…..that Christians might be spiritually awakened, and vigorous….in a healthy and obedient state….that they might be “to the praise of His glory.”

(You will notice here, it is the denying of ourselves…first,…in anything that opposes God (ungodliness)….and in anything that runs after the world’s attitudes and opinions (worldly lust)…

…that we might live…unto God.)

Soberly here, does not mean sadly…..

…it means concentrating on the things of the Lord….not letting things distract us.

(Some people say Christians are sad and mournful.

But Christianity….though often full of trials….is a joyous life….a life of:

“Turn my eyes upon Jesus….look full into HIs wonderful face….and the things of earth will grow strangely dim….in the light of HIs glory and grace.”)

Righteously,…walking in the light of HIs Will….keeping safely close to Him….and turning others to His light.

Godly, means reverent….honoring the Lord in word and life…..being a faithful servant to our Lord…..a faithful brother or sister in Christ.

(The word, “reverent” has somehow gotten to be spoken of in a bad light in this world….

….but reverent is a sweet term showing the hearts awe of our wonderful Lord. It is placing Him above and first….and laboring to give glory to Him in character, as well as words.)

This is how we should live….eyes to Christ, walking in light, and our hearts full of honor to God.

Titus 2:13-14 “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ.

Who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.”

Paul’s heart wells up….as he is thinking of the goal of all our lives…

….to be in a ready state….for Christ’s return.

To be ready for the reign of Christ on the earth….by having that kingdom within us now! (Matthew 6:10)

For Christ Jesus gave Himself for us…..He became the sacrifice which would once take away our sins! (Hebrews 10:10, 12)

Christ now purifies us….by HIs blood and His Spirit….that we might be…

(It is “might be”….for the power by His Spirit is there….will we use what He paid the price for?)

…that we might be a peculiar people…zealous of good works.

We understand the good works….

…and we understand to do them in the chaos of this world…we need zealousness….or to be boiling hot!

But peculiar people? This simply means….”being beyond usual….special”.

He wants us to live up to our privileges as HIs son and daughter…to gain every promise….come to HIs throne of grace and get grace and mercy…

….and live obedient, joyful lives.

And as we look for Christ’s return for us…..let us also live for Him….and build on the foundation of Christ….those good works He has for us to do.
